Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek Attorney Marianne Barth Earns Certified Specialist Designation in Family Law

The San Diego-based law firm of Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek announces that Marianne Barth has been certified as a specialist in family law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.

The State Bar Legal Specialization program provides a rigorous process for attorneys to earn a certified specialist designation in 11 specialty areas of law, including family law. To qualify for family law certification, an attorney must pass a comprehensive written examination testing her knowledge of family law, demonstrate broad-based and extensive practical litigation and settlement experience in the specialty, complete a higher requirement of continuing education hours in the specialty, and be vetted by and obtain favorable evaluations from attorneys and judges familiar with the attorney’s work in family law.

“Marianne works at the highest level of competency in family law, demonstrating both excellent trial and litigation skills, as well as a thorough knowledge of the legal issues, the law and the unique challenges parties face when going through an emotional and difficult legal process,” says Sandra Joan Morris, head of SCMV’s Family Law Department. “She is able to thoughtfully balance her knowledge and experience with understanding and compassion to help our clients bring their cases to a satisfactory resolution. This designation confirms her commitment to providing the best in legal service and solutions.”

Of counsel at SCMV, Barth has more than 29 years of legal experience in family law as well as civil and business litigation resolving highly-complex financial and child custody matters commonly present in domestic cases.

Barth’s commitment to serving includes working with the Lawyers Club of San Diego to help women, minorities and teens address gender-discrimination issues, and with the City of San Diego’s Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force to reduce youth access to prescription medications. She also serves on the San Diego County Bar Association’s legal ethics committee and volunteers as a Superior Court pro tem judge helping families resolve issues without court intervention.

She received her J.D. from California Western School of Law and B.A. from Villa Maria College.
