Estate Planning Practice Grows with Addition of Of Counsel Jessica Bayne

Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek, a trusted San Diego-based law firm for more than 70 years, is pleased to announce the addition of Jessica Bayne to the firm’s prestigious Estate Planning & Administration practice group. An accomplished attorney, Bayne brings with her a wealth of experience and a unique blend of skills in estate planning and tax law, strengthening the firm’s capabilities in helping clients build and protect their legacies.

“I am thrilled to join SCMV’s Estate Planning & Administration practice. The team’s reputation for having a collaborative, client-first approach was just one quality that attracted me to the firm,” Bayne said. “I love estate planning because it’s an honor to help people in a way that is both meaningful and strategic.”

Bayne said she was also attracted to SCMV because of its familial history and its long-established and trusted connections to the San Diego community.

Bayne assists individuals and families in preparing for the future by providing experienced counsel on estate planning, charitable giving and the preservation of wealth for future generations. Her approach combines meticulous legal acumen with a compassionate understanding of her clients’ desires to support their loved ones and interests during life and after death.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jessica to our team,” said Shareholder Patrick Haase, head of SCMV’s Estate Planning & Administration practice group. “Her background in estate planning and tax law is impressive and will be invaluable to our clients. Jessica’s commitment to providing personalized and strategic legal advice fits perfectly with our firm’s mission to deliver outstanding service to our clients.”

In her practice, Bayne offers a comprehensive range of services, including analyzing, preparing and presenting estate planning options and documents for clients, particularly high-net-worth individuals. She is adept at advising on the transfer tax system, strategic asset disposition, fiduciary appointments and crafting tailored strategies to manage estate tax uncertainties.

Now an Encinitas resident, Bayne earned her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where she was the chief articles editor for the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal and received the Marvin Key Collie Presidential Award in Tax Law.

Prior to joining SCMV, Bayne honed her skills at several California law firms that focus on estate planning. Additionally, she has significant experience in income tax compliance and planning from her time at a tax CPA firm and has practiced estate planning and employee benefits law in Austin, Texas. She is licensed to practice in both California and Texas.
