Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith, LLP announces that Tanya Schierling has taken the reins as managing partner of the firm, effective July 1, 2023. Schierling has been practicing law for more than 25 years, including 20 years with Solomon Ward, holding various leadership roles including serving four years as Litigation Department chair.
A smart, accomplished and strategic lawyer, Schierling’s expertise includes extensive litigation and transactional experience handling domestic and international distribution and franchising, a broad spectrum of business litigation, including partnership, corporate and real estate disputes and employment counseling and litigation including labor code, wage, discrimination and harassment claims and investigations. She represents clients ranging from large public corporations to small start-up companies and individuals with the broad experience and wisdom acquired from significant trial and arbitration experience before courts and arbitration forums throughout the U.S. and involving many international jurisdictions.

Schierling takes over from Stephen Schreiner, who served as managing partner of the firm for four years. “I have every confidence in passing our firm’s leadership torch to Tanya,” said Schreiner. “Her broad experience and track record of producing impressive results for our clients, paired with her first-rate leadership, management and interpersonal skills, will enhance the firm’s proud tradition of exemplary service to our clients.”
Schierling began her legal career as an officer in the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where she provided legal advice to tank and infantry commanders and tried felony cases to courts-martial. Her impressive legal work earned her three Meritorious Service Medals (MSM), presented to those who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the country.
Active in the community, Schierling served as vice president of finance for ARCS Foundation and participated in awarding more than $100 million to over 10,000 scholars in top-rated STEM programs at leading U.S. universities. She also dedicates time to mentoring young lawyers in relation to legal practice and pursuing the highest ethics in the practice of law.
Schierling is a member of the California State Bar Association, Maryland State Bar Association, San Diego County Bar Association and United States Supreme Court Bar Association and is admitted to the state and federal courts in the jurisdictions served by these associations.
Schierling has been recognized as a Top Lawyer in San Diego since 2013, as well as a Woman of Influence Over 50 by the San Diego Business Journal, a Woman Who Moves the City by San Diego Metro Magazine and an Influential Woman by The Daily Transcript. She also holds a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent® rating and is an AV Top Rated Lawyer in commercial and business litigation.
Schierling earned her law degree, cum laude, from George Washington University National Law Center and her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Dartmouth College. She resides in La Jolla, California.
