Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith, LLP announced that Stephen L. Schreiner will take the reins as managing partner of the firm, effective July 1, 2019.
Schreiner has more than 35 years of legal experience and over 14 years with Solomon Ward, serving as general counsel and the firm’s chief ethics officer. He represents clients in complex business, commercial and real estate litigation. He has extensive experience as lead attorney in numerous state and federal court judge and jury trials, arbitrations and appeals. Schreiner is also experienced in California gaming law and represents gambling establishments before a variety of administrative tribunals and governmental regulatory agencies, including the California Gambling Control Commission.
“I am honored and humbled to step into the role of managing partner at a firm that has been pivotal in the success of my career,” said Schreiner. “It’s a privilege to be trusted by my fellow partners to help bring Solomon Ward into the future, and I look forward to continuing the success the many managing partners before me have forged.”
Schreiner has held previous leadership positions in other respected San Diego law firms and civic organizations, including the San Diego Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, the UC San Diego Alumni Association, UC San Diego Chancellor’s Associates and La Jolla Country Club. He is a Trustee Emeritus of the UC San Diego Foundation Board of Trustees and a Regent Emeritus of the University of California Board of Regents.
Schreiner has been named a Top Lawyer by San Diego Magazine every year since 2013. He has also earned the San Diego Super Lawyer® (business litigation) distinction and a MartindaleHubbell AV Preeminent® rating each year since 2013.
As part of the firm’s rotating management system, Schreiner takes over from Daniel Gardenswartz, who served as managing partner of the firm for the past four years and who will now become chair of Solomon Ward’s litigation department.
“Steve is not only the perfect fit in terms of his business acumen, he is equally talented in his interpersonal skills, which is sure to serve him well as managing partner. I have every confidence in passing our firm’s leadership torch to Steve,” said Gardenswartz. “As our general counsel, Steve has also shown us why he is such an effective lawyer, and I am certain that he will be an equally effective leader as we continue to navigate the legal marketplace.”
Schreiner earned his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law and his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.
He resides in La Jolla with his wife, Sally Corson.
