Urban Property Group (UPG), a real estate services firm specializing in urban commercial properties, has secured the lease of 12,000 square feet for 70s themed restaurant/bar, Good Night John Boy at 401 G Street in Downtown San Diego. The establishment takes over the space previously occupied by The Tin Roof and is slated to open in early Spring 2024. Between now and the end of December, the space will be a Christmas-themed pop-up bar. In January 2024, renovations will commence for Good Night John Boy.

Located in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter nightlife district, the vintage nightclub concept is the first Good Night John Boy on the west coast and the fifth location in the nation. The nostalgic theme is a vibrant blast to the past featuring disco balls, an LED dance floor, 70s era music and more.

“We are thrilled to have brought a best-in-class national food and beverage operator with a refreshing concept to be a creative addition to our beloved Gaslamp Quarter,” said UPG Principal Dave Maxwell.

Good Night John Boy is part of Forward Hospitality Group, a Cleveland based food and beverage operator with multiple restaurant and entertainment locations in Ohio, Arizona, Florida and more. This venture will be FHG’s first concept on the west coast.

Michael Schwartz, the CEO of FHG, indicated that elements from the club’s interior design are derived from his childhood home.

“The 70’s era still strikes a chord with many and has remained popular over the last 50 years,” said Schwartz. “We are thrilled for our San Diego expansion and anticipate our concept to be very successful here.”

Urban Property Group’s Dave Maxwell and Bill Schrader represented the landlord in this transaction, and the tenant was represented by Main & Main.

This is part of UPG’s growing portfolio of recent large restaurant and retail leases completed this year leases in Downtown San Diego, including:

  • Arcade Monsters / 704 J Street – 12,400 square feet
  • Darband Mediterranean Restaurant / 1450 Kettner – 10,400 square feet
