Pacific Building Group Awarded Harbor Island West Marina

San Diego-based general contractor Pacific Building Group has been awarded the Harbor Island West Marina project, encompassing a complete demolition and renovation of the current marina located at 2040 Harbor Island Drive. The project was awarded by the property’s current owner, HIW Associates, who has owned and managed the marina since 1982.

With an estimated cost of $16 million, the approximately 16,000-square-foot project’s scope of work includes the construction of two new buildings: a 9,980-square-foot, two-story retail building connected with a 5,000-square-foot, two-story marina building. Additions will also include an approximately 800-square-foot west boater restroom building and new recreation areas featuring a pool, picnic area and site landscape. The marina will also renovate and bring back its full-service fuel dock, deli, jacuzzi and 620 boat slips, and continue to offer its sailing academy.

“The Harbor Island West Marina is an iconic and important part of the San Diego Bay, and we thank HIW Associates for trusting us with their vision to transform the space,” said Jim Roherty, president of Pacific Building Group. “Our organization takes pride in our waterfront construction expertise, and we are thrilled to get started on this destination that will continue to serve boating and fishing enthusiasts and visitors.”

This project speaks to PBG’s waterfront and Port District property development capabilities, with which they have demonstrated success in local projects in the past few years. In 2020, PBG completed Portside Pier, a $25 million transformation of San Diego’s flagship waterfront restaurant site along the North Embarcadero, for which they earned the AGC Build San Diego Merit Award in 2021.

Joining PBG on the project is AO Architect based in Orange, Calif. Construction on the marina is anticipated to begin in January 2024, with an estimated completion date of January 2025.
