Is your SEO the best it can be and are you doing all you can to get top search results?
SEO (or search engine optimization) is the process of improving the quality of your website to enable search engines to find you and put you at the top of search results. If implemented properly, SEO has the power to increase your website’s traffic, conversion and ROI while building brand awareness and trust.
These days, everyone searches for what they need online, but most don’t scroll past the first page of results. To gain visibility and stay ahead of your competitors, you must invest time and energy into SEO.
The good news is that SEO doesn’t need to be complicated. Here are a few simple steps you can take today to help improve your SEO:
1. Make sure your website is mobile-friendly
Mobile browsing on smartphones, tablets and other devices has significantly surpassed desktop browsing. Because of this, Google prioritizes websites that are optimized for mobile users. This also includes website loading times. Mobile (and desktop) users want the websites they are browsing to load fast. Your website should load in less than 3 seconds. Does it?
2. Use video on your website
People love video and Google does too. That’s why websites with embedded video content are 53 times more likely to rank on the first page of Google’s search results. Videos provide valuable content, improve the user’s experience by breaking up text and keep users engaged on your website longer. Wouldn’t you like 50 times more people to see your website?
3. Add a blog or news section to your website
Google also prioritizes websites that are active and updated regularly. By maintaining a blog or news page on your website, you increase the number of pages indexed on Google, which helps boost your search ranking. This is also a great way to continuously incorporate keywords for searches.
4. Get active on social media
A website’s traffic is one of Google’s top-ranking factors. Posting content that contains links to your website on social media will help drive traffic back to your website. Sharing is also important. When your social network shares the content you’ve posted, it helps accelerate even more traffic back to your website.
5. Research and use keywords
Make sure you are using keywords and phrases (aka long-tail keywords) throughout your website and blog copy that are relevant to what your target audience is searching for. Achieve this by titling pages and blog posts similar to what someone might type into the Google search bar. For example, instead of titling a blog post “SEO Tips” use “The Best SEO Tips for B2B Businesses.” To help in your keyword research, check out the free Google Keyword Planner tool.
One key thing to keep in mind about SEO is that it is a long-term strategy. It must be well-planned, implemented effectively and updated often.
