Hone Maxwell LLP is pleased to announce that Carolina Juarezhas joined the firm as a partner and Cameron Davidson as an associate attorney. Both bring deep understanding of international tax and business laws to serve clients in California and abroad. In addition, HMLLP co-founder Josh Maxwell was named the firm’s managing partner earlier this year.

“Our firm has always emphasized multi-national and multi-cultural business knowledge to support clients abroad who have U.S. tax obligations and those located in the U.S. with international financial ties and domestic business dealings,” Maxwell said. “Carolina brings substantial experience counseling clients on international business matters while Cameron’s tax planning, reporting, auditing and controversy background will be a valuable benefit to clients.”

Juarez, licensed to practice law in both California and Mexico, focuses on U.S. corporate law for businesses of all sizes and types. Carolina has provided skilled guidance on everything from joint ventures for real estate projects to manufacturing deals for more than two decades. With a strong focus on international business, businesses and individuals in Mexico who want to move to or expand into the United States have relied on Juarez’s unique cross-border business law experience to guide them.  While the firm only practices U.S. law, Carolina’s Mexican legal background assists when working on joint projects with legal colleagues from Mexico. Born in San Diego and raised in Tijuana, Juarez is bilingual and has a unique understanding of both countries’ business cultures. She earned her law degree from Instituto Tecnologico y de EstudiosSuperiores de Monterrey.

Davidson holds a master’s degree in taxation from the University of San Diego School of Lawand previously worked at a small firm handling a variety of tax and business matters. He advises clients on tax planning to avoid future, costly errors that could lead to audits and fines. In addition, he helps clients with all areas of tax controversy including audits, collections and penalties, as well as complying with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), the Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR) and Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income (GILTI) requirements. Maxwell and Partner Aubrey Hone co-founded the firm 10 years ago. Maxwell, in addition to being a licensed attorney, is a CPA with an extensive accounting and finance background that helps clients navigate the underlying issues and transactions related to tax plans and has a winning record representing taxpayers before taxing authorities. His extensive travels to Asia and Mexico have helped establish HMLLP as a leading authority in international tax law and created strong ties with business communities abroad.

Under his leadership, the firm has grown substantially, undergone a rebranding and, importantly, expanded into Tijuana by opening of an office that allows the HMLLP team to build on its strong relationships with accounting firms, law firms and clients in Mexico from a central, convenient location. Recently, the firm increased its San Diego office footprint to accommodate its growing team.
