Wilson Turner Kosmo Partner Vickie Turner to Receive University of San Diego’s Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award

The University of San Diego will present Wilson Turner Kosmo LLP partner Vickie Turner, a 1982 graduate of the USD School of Law, with the Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award. Turner is one of 10 alumni who will be honored by USD at the annual Alumni Honors gala on April 28.

Turner, a complex litigation attorney for over 35 years, is an adjunct professor at the USD School of Law and California Western Law School. She serves on the USD School of Law’s Board of Visitors and annually funds a scholarship for its diverse law students. In 2009, she received the school’s Distinguished Alumni award.

Created in 1995, the Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Awards are named for USD’s first president Author E. Hughes, who oversaw the consolidation of San Diego’s College for Women and College for Men less than a year into his leadership. Hughes’ commitment to excellence is honored annually as notable graduates from each of the university’s five schools receive the award and medallion bearing his name.

Turner joined Wilson Turner Kosmo, California’s largest certified women-owned firm in 1998. Over the course of her career, Turner has earned national recognition defending complex product liability claims for sizeable manufacturers, distributors and retailers in California and 12 other western states.

She was honored by The Salvation Army as a “Wonder Woman” in 2018. She was also honored by Union Bank and KPBS as a “local hero” for her community service as well as the California 79th Assembly District’s 2015 Woman of the Year. She has been recognized as one of San Diego’s top product liability defense attorneys by San Diego Super Lawyers each year since 2007, included on The Best Lawyers in America list since 2010 and was twice named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers for Product Liability Litigation – Defendants.

During her career, Turner has served on the executive boards of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association, Lawyers Club of San Diego, National Bar Association, National Bar Institute, San Diego County Bar Association and San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program. Turner also served as California Minority Council secretary and was appointed to the Southern District Judicial Appointment Advisory Committee by former Sen. Barbara Boxer.

She co-founded of the Turner Dream Foundation with her late husband and three sons as well as the Links to STEM Program for fourth- through eighth-grade students that is aimed at addressing the under representation of African American students on science, technology, engineering and math degree paths.
