NAIOP San Diego Awards Six College Scholarships
NAIOP San Diego, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, awarded approximately $12,000 in annual scholarships to university students Rodel Melaya and Victoria Ortiz from University of California (UCSD) at San Diego, Erik Flores and Chris Nesbitt from University of San Diego (USD) and Nick Zalkow and Dominick Chanes from San Diego State University (SDSU).
Melaya and Ortiz each received scholarships awarded to students from UCSD’s Urban Studies and Planning program. Flores and Nesbitt received Mickey Carhart Memorial Scholarships, awarded to members enrolled at USD’s Burnham Moores Center for Real Estate. Carhart was a leader in San Diego land development and construction and a dedicated member of NAIOP San Diego.
NAIOP San Diego student members Zalkow and Chanes received Mike Philbin/Tony Badeaux Memorial Scholarships, awarded exclusively to SDSU Real Estate Society members. Philbin, a commercial real estate broker, and Badeaux, a commercial real estate investor/developer, were prominent members in San Diego’s real estate industry and leaders within NAIOP San Diego.
“NAIOP members know the value of a good investment, and investing in our community’s future real estate leaders is a natural fit for our organization,” said Dennis Visser, NAIOP San Diego 2017 President and Managing Director at Cushman Wakefield. “It’s also a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of local real estate students and to honor wonderful professionals who helped make San Diego what it is today.”
Applicants submitted biographical, career goal and college transcript information to be considered for the scholarship awards. NAIOP supports these scholarships thru the NAIOP San Diego Foundation’s University Challenge event. The seventh annual University Challenge will take place at Enclave Sorrento on April 27 at 3 p.m.
