Overseen by Gilliland Construction Management, a San Diego-based construction and project management firm, a 4,890-square-foot STEM classroom project is complete at Cathedral Catholic High School(CCHS), located at 5555 Del Mar Heights Road in San Diego, California.
The new Daniel and Mary McSweeney Engineering building will house the school’s robotics program, computer lab and testing/practice area. The project provides an opportunity for CCHS students to continue to grow their pursuits in science and expand on the school’s ability to ready students for college and the future.
The project also included a snack bar and restrooms for the visitor side of the school’s football field.
Gilliland Construction Management provided full project management services, including management of the design, general contractor selection, permitting, bidding and construction process. The project finished on schedule and under budget. Domus Studios provided architectural design and W.E. O’Neil Construction Company provided construction services.
The team designed, permitted and constructed the project in just under 12 months.
“Due to the school’s semester schedule, construction could not start until students left for summer break,” said KirtGilliland, president of Gilliland Construction Management. “Our design and building team coordinated very closely amongst ourselves and with the school because construction had to be completed prior to the second semester, which started this month, and performed adjacent to the school’s active football field.”
